In 1998, Jackson Browne asked Roy McAlister to build an interpretation of his beloved pre-war Gibson Roy Smeck guitars. Jackson left Roy with two of his finest examples to study and capture the essence of these legendary instruments. What started as a custom commission for a guitar that no builder was offering at that time, resulted in one of McAlister Guitars most celebrated models and ignited a demand for this style guitar from high-end luthiers and boutique guitar companies. Jackson Browne has since retired his illustrious 30’s Smeck for the custom Brazilian rosewood McAlister 'Smeck', which he affectionately coined as the "Smeck-Alister."
